Larry Wayne Rich
Nov 26, 1939 - Aug 28, 2009

Larry Wayne Rich, a life long resident of Pensacola, passed away at his home on August 28, 2009.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of almost 40 years, Ava; his children, Major Robert (Kelly) Rich of New Bern, Penny (Jeff) Trivette of Greensboro; his grandchildren, Isabella Rhys Trivette, Lydia Grace Rich, Jacob Alexander Trivette, Madelyn Faith Rich, and Jocelyn Hope Rich. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert (Molly) and Roy (Bennie); his sisters-in laws, Jo-Anne Rosen and Louise (Richard) Franco; and his mother-in-law, Mildred Rosen. His parents, Robert Clifton Rich and Hilda Ernestine Bailey Rich; his grandparents, Will and Brentice Rich, and Hattie Bailey, preceded Larry in death.

After graduating from the class of '57 at Pensacola High, he proudly joined the ranks of the USMC. He received a baseball scholarship to Pensacola Junior College and Florida State University, where is majored in math education. While teaching and coaching at Woodham High School, he met his future wife; they married on his 30th birthday. In 1978, he received his master's degree in administration from Troy State University. He was the principal at McMillan Elementary for two years, Pine Meadow Elementary for 10 years, and Woodham High School until his retirement in 1997.

After retirement, he spent most of his time playing golf, camping and traveling, and babysitting for the grandchildren. Last October, Larry and Ava celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a train trip across Canada. He had plans for another trip this fall, but God had more important plans.

Funeral services were held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Monday, August 31, 2009, at 2:00 p.m.
Pallbearers were J.P. Cone, Frank Willis, Howard Fletcher (coach, Driver's Ed), Gerald Andrews, Ken Sandiford and Horace Jones. Dr. James A. Coleman conducted the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "Together We Build" fund at the church.
